Les Rouge hold off late surge to defeat Pilots in 2-1 Opener
In a thrilling home opener, the Pilots fell short as Les Rouge secured a 2-1 victory despite a late push from the home team. Les Rouge dominated the early proceedings, taking control of the game with a pair of first-half goals that set the tone.
In a competitive first half, Les Rouge left the hosts trailing 2-0, with goals scored in the 29th and 44th minuets of the game.
The Pilots returned with renewed energy in the second half, pushing for a way back into the game. However, Les Rouge's organized defense kept them at bay for much of the half. It wasn't until the 86th minute that the Pilots found a glimmer of hope. A well-placed corner from 2nd year Zach Harman met the head of the 3rd year center back, Gurkarandeep Bhangu, who buried the ball in the net, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
Despite the late surge, Les Rouge held firm, weathering a flurry of attacks in the closing moments to secure all three points. The Pilots will be disappointed to have come up short in their home opener but will take heart from their late fightback. Les Rouge, meanwhile, leave with a hard-earned victory to kickstart their season. |
