Flight Report: Pilots Volleyball hosts CMU Blazers in Double Header

Providence Volleyball closed out November with a home double-header weekend against the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers. Both the men's and women's teams battled hard across two days of competition inside the CRRC, with Saturday also serving as Alumni Appreciation Day, honouring former Pilots volleyball athletes in attendance.


MEN'S VOLLEYBALL

Friday, November 28 – Providence 3, CMU 1 (25-21, 23-25, 25-23, 25-22)

The Pilots opened the weekend with a strong four-set victory, using a balanced offensive effort and an efficient serving night to secure the match.

Top Pilots Performers

  • Cayden Williams – 16 kills, 4 aces, 4 digs, 1 block assist, 20.5 points

  • Cole Doell – 11 kills, 1 solo & 2 block assists (13.0 points)

  • Jesse Vanden Berg – 10 kills, 4 aces, 6 digs, 14.0 points

  • Liam Buhler – 5 kills on .625 hitting, 2 solo + 2 block assists (9.0 points)

  • Marcus Zeilstra – 39 assists, 5 aces, 5 digs, 1 block assist


Saturday, November 29 – Providence 1, CMU 3 (23-25, 19-25, 25-18, 22-25)

On Alumni Appreciation Day, the Pilots showed grit, rallying to win the third set, but CMU edged out the fourth to take the match.

  • Cole Doell – 16 kills (.423), 5 block assists, 19.5 points

  • Will Soper – 9 kills, 1 ace, 4 digs, 2 blocks (11.5 points)

  • Cayden Williams – 9 kills, 2 aces, 4 digs (11.0 points)

  • Liam Buhler – 7 kills on .545 hitting, 3 block assists (9.5 points)

  • Marcus Zeilstra – 39 assists, 6 digs
     


WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL

Friday, November 28 – Providence 3, CMU 1 (19-25, 25-15, 25-21, 25-22)

After dropping the first set, the Pilots surged back to take the next three behind efficient hitting, strong serving, and steady defensive play.

Top Pilots Performers

  • Tyra Peters – 11 kills (.308), 2 aces, 5 digs (14.0 points)

  • Sydney Turrene – 10 kills, 5 aces, 16.0 points

  • Kara Bartel – 8 kills (.200), 9 digs, 2 block assists (9.0 points)

  • Angelle Turenne – 4 kills, 1 ace, 3 blocks (7.5 points)

  • Amanda Bergen – 30 assists, 8 digs


Saturday, November 29 – Providence 3, CMU 1 (25-13, 20-25, 25-22, 25-22)

With alumni in the stands and energy high inside the CRRC, the Pilots women secured another four-set win to complete the weekend sweep.

Top Pilots Performers

  • Tyra Peters – 13 kills (.357), 1 ace, 8 digs (14.0 points)

  • Sydney Turrene – 11 kills, 3 aces, 7 digs (15.5 points)

  • Angelle Turenne – 7 block assists, 3 kills, 1 ace (8.0 points)

  • Avery Pauls – 5 kills, 3 block assists (6.5 points)

  • Amanda Bergen – 28 assists, steady tempo and distribution
     


ALUMNI APPRECIATION DAY

Saturday also featured a celebration of Pilots Volleyball alumni, honouring former players who have helped shape the program. Alumni were recognized throughout the day and joined in cheering on the current Pilots squads.


LOOKING AHEAD

As volleyball heads into Christmas break, both teams will return to action on January 10 to begin the winter semester schedule.

Meanwhile, Pilots Basketball takes center stage this coming weekend:

  • December 5 – at USB Les Rouges 6 PM (Women) and 8 PM (Men) 

  • December 6 –  Hosts Les Rouges at 6 PM (Women) and 8 PM (Men) at the CRRC
