Pilots Host Historic 2026 MCAC Futsal Championship Weekend

For the first time since the COVID pause, Providence University College brought  futsal back to its home gym in Otterburne, hosting the 2026 MCAC Futsal Championships in front of an energized home crowd.

With the women entering as the #2 seed and the men earning the #4 seed — a major step forward after missing last year's playoffs — the Pilots delivered a weekend filled with momentum swings, statement performances, and championship intensity.

Saturday Semifinals vs. USB Les Rouges

Women's Semifinal

Providence 3 – USB 1

The Pilots women set the tone Saturday with a composed 3–1 victory over Université de Saint-Boniface.

The Pilots opened the scoring early, with a goal from second year Hayley Medeiros in the first 2 minutes of the game. Medeiros led from the front with two goals — kicking off the match before giving the Pilots the lead later in the second half.

The Pilots continued to press in the second half, and Catalina Hickey added an insurance marker to extend the advantage to 3–1. After striking first, Providence controlled possession, limited high-danger chances, and dictated the tempo the rest of the way. The win secured yet another finals matchup with Brandon — a familiar championship storyline in the MCAC.

Men's Semifinal

USB 5 – Providence 4

The men's semifinal was a dramatic tale of two halves — and one that began in spectacular fashion for the Pilots.

Providence stormed out of the gate, jumping to a 3–0 lead. Zach Harman struck twice, while Isaac Aman added another as the Pilots seized early control and electrified the home crowd

USB responded, clawing their way back into the match and eventually stringing together five goals to flip the script.

Providence refused to go quietly. Harman finished with two goals and an assist, while Aman added a goal and two helpers in a dynamic offensive showing . Freshman Benjamin Maier also found the scoresheet as the Pilots pushed late.

Despite the 5–4 final, the performance marked clear progress for the men's program. As the #4 seed — and after missing playoffs last season — the Pilots proved they can compete with the conference's best and nearly secured a finals berth on home court.

Sunday Women's Final vs. Brandon

Brandon 5 – Providence 3

As has become tradition in the MCAC, Providence met the Brandon University Bobcats in the championship final.

Brandon opened the game hot on offense, scoring a "pin-ball" style give and go goal in the first 5 mins. Knowing there was still lot's of time on the clock, the pilots remained calm and stuck to their game plan.

With 8 minutes left in the first half, the Pilots found their equalizer from second year, Dakota Bearwho delivered two goals and an assist, while Halle Owen contributed a goal and two assists as the duo factored into all three Providence goals

It was a true tale of back-and-forth, with the Pilots finding their second, the Bobcats responding, the Pilots then finding their third of the match, and the Bobcats once again responding. Bringing the game to 3–3 and momentum seemingly swinging towards the home side. The Pilots were finding their shots and their chances. But Brandon found the opportunity to net two more goals. With roughly 9 minuets left on the clock, the Pilots did not back down. They pushed offensively, found shot after shot, but it was simply not their day.

A Statement Weekend in Otterburne

While the Pilots ultimately fell just short of a banner, the 2026 MCAC Futsal Championships represented something bigger.

Championship futsal returned to Otterburne.
The women reaffirmed their place among the conference elite with another finals appearance.
The men showed measurable growth, pushing a semifinal to the brink as the #4 seed.

The Pilots are trending upward — and with championship weekend back on home court, the foundation is firmly in place for what comes next.
