Flight Report: Full Throttle Weekend Sees Pilots Tested Across Sports

Box Score 1

The Pilots were in action across futsal, basketball, and volleyball this past weekend, with tight battles, statement wins, and key development moments as the seasons continue to take shape.

Pilots Futsal

Women

Thursday, January 29 — Tied CMU Blazers 1–1
The women's futsal team opened the weekend with a hard-fought draw against the CMU Blazers. After conceding a late first-half goal, the Pilots responded quickly in the second half, with Cassie Hoytema finding the back of the net within the opening five minutes to even the score.

Friday, January 30 — Win vs AC Cougars 9–1
The Pilots traveled to Brandon and delivered a dominant performance, netting nine goals from nine different players. The win was highlighted by a sneaky throw-in goal from goalkeeper Jaden Hickey, capping off a complete team effort on both ends of the court.

Saturday, January 31 — Tied BU Bobcats 3–3
In their first meeting with the Bobcats since the MCAC outdoor final loss in October, the Pilots showed resilience. After falling behind 2–0, they battled back to tie the match 3–3, with freshman Avery Meyer scoring a clutch equalizer in the final minutes.

Men

Thursday, January 29 — Loss vs CMU Blazers 4–5
The Pilots and Blazers traded goals in a back-and-forth contest. The Pilots held a 3–2 lead at halftime, but CMU found momentum in the second half. Marco Downie, Isaac Aman, and Benjamin Maier (2) led the scoring for the Pilots.

Friday, January 30 — Win vs AC Cougars 9–1
Friday's bus trip to Brandon didn't slow the Pilots down, as the men mirrored the women's scoreline with a decisive 9–1 victory over the Cougars.

Saturday, January 31 — Loss vs BU Bobcats 0–2
The Pilots remained competitive throughout the match, but two late goals proved decisive. Goalkeeper Santiago Vasquez delivered a strong performance to keep the Pilots within reach.

Pilots Basketball

Women

Friday, January 30 — Win vs CMU Blazers 62–56
The Pilots opened the weekend with a solid home win. Colby Darragh had an impactful performance on both ends of the floor, finishing with 9 points, while Lily Anderson pulled down 7 rebounds.

Saturday, January 31 — Win at CMU Blazers 79–75
In a tighter rematch, the Blazers pushed to dethrone the Pilots from the top seed. A strong first quarter, shooting 68.8% from the field, set the tone. The Pilots finished shooting 43.5%, led by Sydney Last with 18 points. Fiona Garcia added 12 points, including a perfect 100% from three-point range.

Men

Friday, January 30 — Loss vs CMU Blazers 64–73
A slow start put the Pilots behind early, but they made an impressive push in the second and third quarters. Rhys Maestre led the Pilots with 25 points, while Garrett Smith earned player of the game honours for his efforts both on offense and defense.

Saturday, January 31 — Loss at CMU Blazers 62–72
Despite shooting 44.6% from the field and an efficient 60% in the second quarter, the Pilots were unable to hand the Blazers their first loss of the season. Emmanuel Oleko recorded a standout performance with 23 points and 15 rebounds.

Pilots Volleyball

Exhibition — Hosted Confederation College
Pilots volleyball hosted Confederation College in exhibition play this past weekend. Both the men's and women's teams earned straight-set sweep victories, providing valuable opportunities for player development and lineup depth.
