It was a busy weekend for the Providence Pilots, with all six athletic programs hitting the fields and courts for competitive action. Here's a look at how each team performed:
Pilots Soccer
Women's Soccer – The Pilots traveled to face the University de Saint Boniface Les Rouges and came away with an impressive win. After a slow start, Cassie Hoytema opened the scoring with a penalty kick. The second half saw a surge of energy, with three goals scored in just 10 minutes. Highlights included a beautiful tap-in from Hayley Mederios (assisted by Halle Owen), a scramble goal from Cassie Hoytema (assisted by Serena Negrich), and a fourth goal following a 50/50 win in midfield by Dakota Bear, who found Halle Owen through a Matea Maras pass. Cassie Hoytema earned MCAC Player of the Game honors for her standout performance.
The team now turns its focus to a packed schedule next week, with five games in nine days, starting with a doubleheader at home against the CMU Blazers and Assiniboine Cougars.
Men's Soccer – The men battled hard against Les Rouges but came up short in a tightly contested match. Les Rouges struck early in the 24th minute, and the Pilots' best chance to equalize in the 75th minute was called off for offside. Santiago Vasquez played an unreal game, making some do or die stops for the team, earning him the MCAC Player of the Game honours. The Pilots showed strong defensive resilience throughout but will need to regroup and secure a win against the Cougars this weekend to guarantee a playoff spot. With the league extremely competitive, every game is critical as the season heads down the stretch.
Pilots Volleyball
Both teams traveled to Alberta for Red Deer Polytechnic's invitational preseason tournament, facing top ACAC competition. It was a great chance to gain experience, test lineups, and build team chemistry ahead of the MCAC regular season.

Pilots Basketball
The basketball teams debuted in their first preseason exhibition against USB Les Rouges in Winnipeg.
Women's Basketball – The Pilots earned a strong 92-67 win in their first collegiate game under new head coach Kendall Perpall. Coach Perpall reflected, "Solid showing in our exhibition vs USB. Started strong, hit some bumps in the 2nd, but responded the right way in the 3rd and 4th. Proud of how we competed and the energy we brought to finish strong. A few things to tighten up, but I like the direction we're headed this season."
Men's Basketball – The Pilots came up just short in a 73-77 loss. Coach Pierre noted, "Using their new length and athleticism, St Boniface challenged our offence early on in the game. It took us a few minutes to adjust, but we were eventually able to find momentum and rhythm. They made us rush and struggle with a full-court press, resulting in too many turnovers, allowing them to stay in the game and even take the lead in the second half. We were not calm enough to come back, despite some solid performances on both ends of the court from some of our players, to keep us in the game. Despite the loss, I believe this game highlighted some good things we have going on, and some of the areas we need to put work into, both in basketball skills and mental approach, for this season. It will definitely make us better and allow us to continue to grow before launching our season at Mayville State University at the end of the month."
