The Providence Pilots women's basketball team etched their name into the program's history books this March, making their first-ever appearance at the NCCAA Division II National Championships—and leaving a lasting impression.
In a season already filled with milestones, the Pilots took another step forward on the national stage, finishing 9th in the tournament and capturing their first-ever NCCAA Nationals victory in program history.
Providence opened the tournament against a tough Emmaus squad, battling hard but ultimately falling 65–74. Despite the loss, there were strong individual performances that showcased the Pilots' ability to compete at the national level. Faith LaRocque led the way with an impressive 23 points and 9 rebounds, while Sydney Last added 10 points and 9 rebounds of her own in a well-rounded effort.
The Pilots responded in a big way in their second game, delivering a statement performance with an 81–58 victory over Manhattan Christian to close out their tournament run. Providence controlled the game from start to finish, using balanced scoring and strong defensive play to secure the historic win.
LaRocque once again led the charge with a dominant 21-point, 11-rebound double-double, anchoring the Pilots on both ends of the floor. Colby Darragh provided a major boost off the bench with 13 points and 7 rebounds, while Sydney Last contributed 7 points and 5 boards. The Pilots' depth proved to be a key factor, with 45 bench points highlighting a complete team effort.
Beyond the on-court success, Providence was also recognized for excellence in the classroom and character, as Faith LaRocque, Sydney Last, and Adrian Alley were each named NCCAA Scholar-Athletes at the tournament banquet—an achievement that reflects the program's commitment to developing student-athletes both academically and athletically.
From their first national appearance to their first national victory, the Pilots' journey at the NCCAA Championships marks a significant step forward for the program. With a 9th-place finish and history made, this group has set a new standard—one that will serve as a foundation for future success on the national stage.
