Pilots Volleyball at USB Les Rouges
Providence Volleyball put together an impressive weekend on the road at USB Les Rouges, with both the Women's and Men's teams delivering strong performances in a competitive doubleheader series.
Women's Volleyball
The Providence women split the weekend, showcasing resilience and growth against a tough USB squad.
Friday Night (Jan. 16)
The Pilots battled through a five-set thriller but came up just short, falling 3–2. Providence showed balance across the lineup, led by Sydney Turenne, who paced the offense with 12 kills and added defensive consistency. Zoe MacLellan delivered an efficient outing, posting five kills on .455 hitting, while also contributing at the service line. At the net, newcomer Herdie Castillo and Angelle Turenne combined for key blocks, helping Providence push the match to a decisive fifth set. |

Saturday Afternoon (Jan. 17)
Providence responded in dominant fashion, earning a 3–1 victory to close out the weekend. Tyra Peters was unstoppable offensively, finishing with 13 kills on an outstanding .565 hitting percentage, while adding pressure from the service line. Herdie Castillo continued her strong weekend, tallying seven kills and four total blocks, and Angelle Turenne chipped in 10 kills to round out a balanced attack. Setter Georgia Friesen orchestrated the offense effectively with 34 assists, guiding the Pilots to their bounce-back win. |

Men's Volleyball
The Providence men were firing on all cylinders, sweeping both matches in straight sets to complete a perfect weekend.
Friday Night (Jan. 16)
Providence opened the series with a convincing 3–0 win, powered by an efficient and aggressive offense. Cole Doell led the way with nine kills on .667 hitting, while Cayden Williams added eight kills and four service aces. At the net, Liam Buhler was a force defensively, recording five total blocks, helping limit USB's offensive rhythm. |

Saturday Afternoon (Jan. 17)
The Pilots closed the weekend with another 3–0 sweep, continuing their offensive dominance. Jesse Vanden Berg delivered a standout performance with 11 kills, while Cayden Williams followed up with nine kills and three aces. Setter Jesse Peters facilitated the offense smoothly, dishing out 27 assists, and the Pilots' blocking presence once again proved crucial, keeping USB on its heels throughout the match. |

Pilots Futsal Opens at Home with Electric Weekend in Otterburne
Providence Pilots Men's and Women's Futsal officially opened their home schedule this weekend, hosting USB Les Rouges in Otterburne for the first time since the 2020 futsal season. Playing in their true home gym, the atmosphere was buzzing as an energetic crowd packed the stands for a long-awaited return to home action.
Unfortunately, due to weather conditions, Sunday's matchups against Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) were cancelled and will be rescheduled at a later date.
Women's Futsal
The Pilots women put on an exciting performance in their home opener, battling USB in a fast-paced matchup. After striking early, Providence continued the effort, showing composure and grit throughout the match. Les Rouges stayed in it, continuing to respond, but the Pilots were able to edge them out by 2, and gain the 3 points!
Key contributors included Dakota Bear, who finished with a goal and an assist, while Halle Owen, Jayda Codling, Serena Negrich, Olivia Swaby, and Jaden Hickey all found the back of the net for the Pilots.
Men's Futsal
The men's side showcased resilience and attacking depth in their home opener. After conceding early, the Pilots responded with strong pressure and quality finishing in the second half.
Isaac Aman led the way with a goal and an assist, while Benjamin Maier, Gurkarandeep Bhangu, and Marco Downie added goals for Providence. The Pilots continued to press until the final whistle but ultimately dropped a 6–4 result to USB.
Looking Ahead
The weekend offered a small glimpse of what's to come for the Futsal season, as the Pilots continue to build momentum at home. The energy in the gym was undeniable—and it sets the stage perfectly as Providence prepares to host the MCAC Futsal Playoffs on February 21–22. We are back —and Pilots Futsal is just getting started. The teams will now head into a bye week, as they prep to take on the AC Cougars and BU Bobcats Jan 30th and 31st!
As for Pilots Vollleyball, they will head back to Winnipeg this weekend to face the CMU Blazers on January 23rd and 24th!
Pilots Basketball faced an unfortunate loss to the weather this weekend, as their games against Trinity Bible College were cancelled due to road and weather conditions. But, the men's team will rebound and prep to host Oak Hills Christian College in a double header at home this coming weekend!
